Getting decennial cover again after cancellation
After a cancellation, your previous policy still covers projects started during its validity period, for the whole decennial guarantee period. However, no new project can start without a new policy: the insurance obligation applies each time a project starts.
Insurers are more cautious with a professional whose policy was cancelled. The key is transparency: reason for cancellation, claims history, explanations of the claims and measures taken (training, new methods, stopping a high-risk activity). A complete file is better received than a situation discovered during the review.
If you are refused, you can refer the matter to the Bureau central de tarification (BCT): article L243-4 of the French Insurance Code allows anyone subject to compulsory construction insurance, after a refusal, to ask the BCT to set the premium at which a chosen insurer must cover them.
The new policy may be more expensive or carry a higher excess at first; if the BCT is involved, it sets the premium and may set an excess. Limiting your activities to those you master best improves your chances: see covered activities and exclusions and decennial insurance cost.

Frequently asked questions
Are my past projects still covered after cancellation?
Yes: projects started while the previous policy was valid remain covered for the decennial period.
Can I work while waiting for a new policy?
Not on any new project subject to decennial insurance: it must be covered from the start.
What is the BCT?
The Bureau central de tarification can, after a refusal, set the premium at which an insurer must cover you (article L243-4 of the French Insurance Code).
Must I disclose the cancellation to the new insurer?
Yes. Hiding a cancellation or claims can make the policy void.
